Rohit Sharma completes 18000 international runs during IND vs ENG World Cup 2023 match

On Sunday, Rohit Sharma completed his 18000th international run during India’s World Cup match against England in Lucknow.

The Indian captain achieved the feat in his 477th innings, becoming only the fifth Indian player to do so. Before Rohit, there were Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, and Virat Kohli.

In the 21st over, Rohit crossed the mark with a slog sweep boundary off Adil Rashid. Rohit was obliged to stabilise India’s innings alongside KL Rahul when the team was 40/3 after 12 overs.

With a pull shot against Mark Wood, he scored his 54th ODI half-century in 66 deliveries.

Rashid, on the other hand, had the final laugh after he foxed Rohit with a googly and had him caught at deep mid wicket. Rohit scored 87, falling 13 runs short of a record-extending eighth World Cup tonne.

His 18000 runs were divided as follows: 3677 in Tests, 3853 in T20Is, and 10470 in One-Day Internationals. In international cricket, Rohit has 45 hundreds and 98 fifties.

DRS gave the skipper a reprieve on 33. Chris Woakes’ inswinger hit him on the front pad, and the umpire raised his finger. However, after further examination, the ruling was reversed, with the ball tracker indicating that the delivery was travelling down the leg stump.

In 2023, Rohit became only the third hitter after Shubman Gill and Pathum Nissanka to score 1000 runs in ODIs. Rohit has reached the four-figure milestone for the fifth time in a calendar year.
