BCCI And Selectors To Sit With Virat Kohli To Decide On T201 Future Ahead Of T20 World Cup 2024: Report

Virat Kohli has been India’s top player for the last 15 years and is anticipated to break practically every cricket record held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Virat Kohli demonstrated his class once again in the ICC World Cup 2023, scoring 765 runs in the format, including three centuries. However, according to a recent report by the news site Dainik Jagran, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is unsure about Virat Kohli’s status in the T20 World Cup 2024, which is set to take place in June of next year.

Team India captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid, and selection panel chairman Ajit Agarkar met with BCCI officials for five hours to discuss planning for the T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in the United States and the West Indies. One obvious issue was that Team India was playing very few T20s in preparation for the World Cup.

India will begin their South Africa series with three T20 internationals on December 10, followed by three T20Is against Afghanistan in India. Senior players including as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah will not play in the South African T20 series.

Ishan Kishan on number 3 :

The BCCI is also considering Ishan Kishan for the number three spot, which Virat Kohli currently holds. The BCCI executive present at the meeting told Dainik Jagran that they want someone who can play attacking cricket at number three, something Ishan Kishan has demonstrated on numerous occasions.

Virat Kohli can certainly carve out a spot for himself if he performs admirably in the Indian Premier League (IPL), but the only problem is that he opens for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), a position where the BCCI is adamant about keeping either Shubman Gill or Yashasvi Jaiswal alongside skipper Rohit Sharma.

Rohit Sharma to lead?

After asking for a vacation from the white ball format during the South Africa series, rumours circulated that the Indian captain was considering retiring from the game’s short formats. However, according to sources, the BCCI has asked Rohit Sharma to captain India in the T20 World Cup.
