Michael Klinger replaces Haynes as Gujarat Giants head coach at WPL

Gujarat Giants have hired their head coach for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 season, just days before the competition begins. Michael Klinger will succeed Rachael Haynes as the Giants’ new head coach, the team announced.

Klinger will be joined on the coaching staff for the 2024 competition, which is set to begin on February 23rd. Speaking of Klinger, he recently coached the Sydney Thunder in the WBBL.

The Gujarat Giants announced Klinger’s signing on X (previously Twitter) with the description, “Coach saheb padharya! We are excited to welcome former Australian cricketer @maxyklinger as our head coach for the forthcoming WPL season.”

Following the announcement, Klinger voiced his delight, saying, “The Gujarat Giants have the opportunity to do something exceptional in Season 2 of the Women’s Premier League. I’m excited to work with cricketing legend Mithali Raj, who has transformed women’s cricket in India. “I hope to lead the team to ultimate success.”

Mithali Raj, the Gujarat Giants’ coach, also praised Klinger’s participation in the team, citing his bat skills. “Working with Michael will help the Gujarat Giants players perform to their full potential. His bat knowledge is well-known, and it will undoubtedly benefit some of our team’s younger members. We’re looking forward to having Klinger in the dressing room. “We are confident that with him as head coach, we will be successful,” Mithali Raj said in a Giants statement.

The Giants’ 2024 season will begin on February 25 in Bengaluru against the Mumbai Indians.
