Ganguly, the Director of Cricket for Delhi Capitals, provided the most recent report on Pant in an interview with the Times of India. During this conversation, he stated that Pant had fulfilled all of the necessary procedures to restore fitness, and that the NCA should accept his return.
“Let Rishabh get cleared on March 5, only then we’ll talk about captaincy backups. We are taking a cautious approach with him because he has a very long career ahead of him. We don’t want to push him in excitement. We will see how Rishabh reacts. He will be joining the camp once NCA gives him the clearance. We will see match by match. We can’t predict,” Ganguly said in the interview.
Pant will make his long-awaited comeback after being out for more than a year following a serious vehicle accident that required many operations and considerable rehabilitation. According to Ganguly, Delhi has enough wicketkeeping options in Kumar Kushagra, Ricky Bhui, Shai Hope, and Tristan Stubbs.
“Rishabh coming back fit is a huge addition for us. We hope he plays the full season because he is a very special player. We have worked on some domestic players who have done well in all formats, but Rishabh is very important.”
The IPL 2024 season begins on March 22, with the BCCI publishing the schedule for the first 21 matches until March 7. The remaining matches will be determined once the BCCI has more clarity following the government’s declaration of the general election dates.
