Afghanistan and India will play a bilateral white-ball cricket series for the first time, in addition to competing in the T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup, and Asia Cup. Afghanistan and India also played a one-off Test match in 2018, which India won by an innings and 262 runs.

The first encounter between the two sides will take place on January 11 at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. The series will end on January 17 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore, with the second game taking place on January 14 at the Holkat Stadium in Indore.

The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led team performed admirably in the Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. They defeated England by 69 runs, as well as Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The Afghans had Australia on the ropes at 91/7 until Glenn Maxwell turned up the pressure with his unbroken 201-run innings at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

The Afghans were eliminated in the semi-finals but qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025.
