Australia’s Mitchell Marsh out of ICC World Cup 2023 indefinitely

Mitchell Marsh, an Australian allrounder, will be absent from the ICC World Cup 2023 indefinitely due to personal reasons, Cricket Australia announced on Thursday.

It was unclear how long Marsh would be out and whether a replacement squad player would be needed.

“A timeline for his return to the squad will be confirmed,” the release said.

The five-time champions take on holders England in Ahmedabad on Saturday before facing Afghanistan and Bangladesh in pool play later this month.

After six matches, Australia is third in the table, and the news of Marsh’s absence comes after fellow all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was ruled out of the England match due to concussion after falling off a golf cart this week.

Marcus Stoinis is expected to return to the lineup after recovering from a calf injury, while Cameron Green is expected to fill in for Marsh.
