Delhi Capitals fans will finally breathe easy, as captain Rishabh Pant has gained fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, making him eligible to play in the Indian Premier League 2024.
Pant received his No Objection Certificate (NoC) on Sunday evening, as reported by SportsTak.
Pant was named DC’s captain for the IPL 2024 earlier this year, but he had to be fit in time for the start of the season.
DC’s director of cricket, Sourav Ganguly recently said that the team will not rush Rishabh Pant’s return in excitement.
“He has done everything to get fit and that’s the reason NCA will clear him. Let Rishabh get cleared on Mar 5 only then we’ll talk about captaincy backups. We are taking a cautious approach with him because he has a very long career ahead of him. We don’t want to push him in excitement. We will see how Rishabh reacts. He will be joining the camp once NCA gives him the clearance. We will see match by match. We can’t predict,” said Ganguly.
According to an earlier media source, Pant was not named to DC’s IPL 2024 squad because he did not receive fitness clearance. The franchise even requested Pant’s fitness report from the BCCI, but did not receive a response from board management.
