Shane Watson no longer in contention to be Pakistan head coach | Reports

Shane Watson has refused to coach Pakistan’s team. He was the ideal candidate for the Pakistan Cricket Board, but the veteran pulled out. He was speaking with the governing body of Pakistan Cricket after enjoying his stint as a coach with the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League. He wanted to coach Pakistan’s players but had to withdraw his name.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Watson is more concerned with completing his current coaching and commentary tasks. He will be a member of the commentary crew for the Indian Premier League 2024 and coach the San Francisco Unicorns in Major League Cricket. Shane has a small family and currently resides in Sydney.

He would have to join immediately if he decided to become Pakistan’s head coach ahead of the country’s home white-ball series against New Zealand in April.

The Men in Green are without a head coach before of their games against the Kiwis. The subcontinent squad will also play a player T20I series against England in May, prior to the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

According to rumours from Pakistan, PCB was willing to give Shane Watson $2 million every year.

Watson was appointed head coach of the Quetta Gladiators in 2023. He earned a title as a Gladiator player in 2019.

He sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed as franchise captain and replaced him with South African Rilee Rossouw.

The Quetta Gladiators have qualified for the playoffs for the first time in five years. However, they were defeated by Islamabad United on Friday.
