Veteran Afghan batter Noor Ali Zadran retires from international cricket

Noor Ali Zadran, the experienced Afghanistan cricketer, has announced his retirement from international cricket, in a move that will have far-reaching consequences. This follows a career that included two Tests, 51 ODIs, and 23 T20Is, during which he left an unforgettable impression on the sport.

He made 45 runs off 25 balls in Afghanistan’s first ODI against Scotland at the 2009 ICC World Cup Qualifier. Noor’s last game at the Tolerance Oval was a Test against Ireland last week.

The 35-year-old Noor Ali Zadran, a name familiar to cricket fans, was known for his versatility. He amassed an amazing 1216 runs in one-day internationals, including a century and seven half-centuries. His T20I debut in 2010 was the start of an incredible career that ended in 2023 with his final game in the shortest format.

Earlier this year, in a moving event, the opening batter received his Test cap, a tribute to his hard work and dedication. This was a proud time for Noor Ali Zadran, who received his first call-up to the national team.

Ibrahim Zadran, his nephew and teammate, gave him his Test cap. The pair then scored 106 runs for the opening wicket in the second innings of the Test match.
