As the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 final, in which host India will face five-time ODI winners Australia in Ahmedabad, approaches, the venue is also preparing to recognise former World Cup-winning leaders.
All former World Cup-winning captains will be recognised and awarded with a special blazer at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday as part of a special effort organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The award ceremony is set to take place following the conclusion of the first innings of the final.
MS Dhoni, Kapil Dev, Ricky Ponting, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Eoin Morgan, and Arjuna Ranatunga will be honoured with unique blazers in Ahmedabad. However, Imran Khan of Pakistan will not be present because he is still imprisoned.
The award ceremony will contain short video of the leaders leading their respective teams to World Cup triumph. A brief question-and-answer session with a BCCI/Star anchor will also lend an entertaining touch to the occasion.
