As much as the players have grown tired of the World Cup, it appears that media professionals have as well. Team India is back on the road for a bilateral series against the same opponents just three days after their sad loss to Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 Final.
However, only two journalists attended the newly chosen skipper Suryakumar Yadav’s pre-match press conference ahead of the men in blue’s series-opening T20I against Australia in Visakhapatnam.
“Only two people!” exclaimed the Indian skipper with a smile on his face after seeing the turn-out for the press-conference.
A news conference with Matthew Wade, Australia’s captain for this series, was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon but did not take place. It was not established, however, whether this was due to a lack of journalists.
During the World Cup, India organised press conferences at which over 100 journalists easily attended. In a few instances, such as the semifinal and final, the number surpassed 200. There were many more submissions. This is to be expected at ICC events because journalists from all over the world travel to the venues to cover their teams. However, cricket is so popular in India that even bilateral matches garner a lot of media attention.
However, given the current state of affairs, it appears like there isn’t enough time to build momentum between the first IND vs. AUS T20I and the World Cup final. To make matters even more incredible, the same two teams, albeit with different lineups, competed for the World Cup championship just 96 hours earlier.
