VVS Laxman Likely To Become New Head Coach As Rahul Dravid Not Keen On Extension, Says Report

This is devastating news for cricket enthusiasts. Rahul Dravid, the Indian Cricket Team’s head coach and former captain, is expected to retire from his position.

Multiple sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the legendary batter, whose two-year contract expired with the end of the ICC World Cup 2023, has reportedly decided not to continue as the Indian team’s head coach and has informed the BCCI of this decision.

His close buddy VVS Laxman, who is now the head coach of a second-string Indian squad that will face Australia in a five-match T201 series beginning Thursday in Vizag, is expected to replace Dravid, according to reports.

Rahul Dravid can reapply for the position. He may chose to resume his Indian Premier League (IPL) obligations, however.

Dravid was hired as Team India’s head coach on a two-year contract in November 2021.

According to the Times of India, Dravid has notified the BCCI that he would no longer be a full-time coach. He has been a member of the Indian squad for about 20 years, and in recent years, he has had to go through the same trauma, which he finds unpleasant. He is excited to return to his birthplace of Bengaluru as the head of the NCA, a role he previously held. He is fine with coaching the team on an as-needed basis, but not as a full-time coach.

Meanwhile, Laxman has indicated interest in the role.
