According to ESPNcricinfo, England pacer Jofra Archer will miss the Indian Premier League 2024 as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) attempts to limit his workload ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Archer has missed the majority of the season owing to a recurring elbow ailment, and he will make his final appearance in professional cricket in May 2023. He travelled with the England team as a reserve player, but stayed in India for a week since he was still in discomfort.
The Mumbai Indians, the five-time IPL winners, released him ahead of the auction. Fans expected Archer to be at his best in IPL 2023, leading MI to their sixth title, but injuries disrupted his season and impacted his performances. He only took two wickets in five matches and was more easier to hit by batters.
Archer was also ruled out of the Ashes series owing to a recurrence of a stress fracture in his right elbow, which ended his stay with the Mumbai Indians in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the words of ESPNcricinfo, “Archer did not feature among the list of over 1000 names – including 34 England players – who have registered for the IPL auction that takes place in Dubai on December 19 as the ECB told Archer not to enter the auction.” Moeen Ali, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Jason Roy, Mark Wood, Will Jacks, and Reece Topley were all retained by their IPL franchises ahead of the season.
All-rounder Ben Stokes and top batsman Joe Root, on the other side, have opted out of the event.
