Sagar will take over for Huge Edmeades, who conducted the auction last year, and will be India’s first full-fledged IPL auctioneer.
Notably, when Edmeades abruptly fainted during the 2022 IPL auction, Charu Sharma momentarily took over as auctioneer. Mallika Sagar’s appointment is a watershed moment in cricket’s traditionally male-dominated auctioneering job.
The IPL Auction 2024 is set for December 19, 2023, at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. The auction will feature ten franchises, and hefty bids are expected, with clubs potentially breaking the bank to include talented players.
The auction takes place a month after the World Cup 2023 concludes, and franchises are expected to exhibit interest in tournament stars such as Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, Shardul Thakur, Mitchell Starc, and others, who are expected to fetch record-breaking offers.
