Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has made a daring prediction for the IPL 2024 auction, believing that there should be a separate fund for acquiring foreign players. Chopra remarked that it is the Indian Premier League, and Mitchell Starc should not be paid more than Jasprit Bumrah.
Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were the top two buys in the IPL 2024 mini auction, making it a historic day for Australian players. At one end, Starc was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 crore, while Pat Cummins was acquired by Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crore.
While speaking to Jio Cinema Aakash Chopra said,
“There should be a different purse for overseas players, it is the INDIAN premier league. Starc doesn’t deserve more salary than Bumrah.“
Returning to the Indian Premier League 2024 auction, a total of 333 players went under the hammer, with 72 sold and $2,30,45,00,000 spent. Aside from Cummins and Starc, Travis Head, Australia’s hero in the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final and final, joined Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Aside signing the Australians, CSK chose Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, both strong performers for New Zealand in the 2023 ODI World Cup, for INR 1.80 crore and INR 14 crore, respectively.
Following the end of the IPL 2024 auction, the trading window will reopen on December 20, and players will be able to be transferred 30 days before the start of the Indian Premier League.
The Indian Premier League 2024 will take place in March, April, and May, with reports that the competition may be moved out of India due to the country’s forthcoming Loksabha elections. Despite the parliamentary elections, the 2019 IPL was staged in India.
The IPL 2024 will be especially memorable for players like Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and MS Dhoni. At one end, Hardik has returned home and will head the five-time champs. Rohit will return to the pitch after an 11-year absence.
Shubman Gill will command Gujarat Titans, his first captaincy experience in his cricketing career. Gill has been in excellent form in 2023 and is the top run scorer in the ODI format. Gill has scored hundreds in all three forms and is one of the Indian team’s most promising young players.
