Melbourne Renegades have brought in Netherlands captain Scott Edwards to replace Joe Clarke

Franchise in the Big Bash League According to ESPNcricinfo, the Melbourne Renegades have called in Dutch captain Scott Edwards to replace the injured Joe Clarke.

Edwards is now in South Africa with the Netherlands team on a training tour, where they will play five matches against SA20 teams before the competition begins.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Edwards, who has Australian citizenship, will return to Melbourne and be available for the Renegades’ final two BBL matches against the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunder.

Renegades will be without ace wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock for the next two games. Following the conclusion of the Renegades’ match against the Hobart Hurricanes on Thursday, the South African will return to South Africa for the SA20.

Clarke was meant to take over behind the stumps after de Kock left, but his injury compounded the Renegades’ troubles. Jordan Cox, an English batter, was brought in as a replacement for de Kock and played one match as Clarke’s replacement in the Melbourne derby on Tuesday and one before de Kock’s arrival.

Clarke was not the only player who caused the Renegades anxiety. Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s season with the team was cut short because the Afghanistan Cricket Board amended his No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the remainder of the BBL season.

The ACB issued a statement last week announcing that Mujeeb, along with pacers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi, had been sanctioned by the board following their plea to be excluded from the central contract 2024.

The sanctions included withdrawing any current NOCs and prohibiting the three bowlers from participating in T20 leagues for the next two years.

As a replacement, West Indian spinner Akeal Hosein was brought in. He took 13 wickets from nine matches in BBL 12 at a 17.38 average and a 6.46 economy rate.
