Yashasvi Jaiswal said, “I want to play till the very…….make double of it”.

India dominated the first day of the second Test, with star left-hander Yashasvi Jaiswal remaining undefeated at the end of day one. Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. The Men in Blue started off well, with openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit scoring 40 runs for the first wicket. The latter was the first person to be dismissed. The captain’s string of low scores continues in the game’s longest format.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer provided adequate backing to the 22-year-old batter, forming a little partnership with him. However, Iyer and the Southpaw formed a 90-run relationship. Jaiswal struck his second century and first against England and has been in excellent form. Rajat Patidar, who made his debut, scored 70 runs before being removed in the most awful manner. The ball bounced under his bat before fiercely turning backwards and onto the stumps, and he was back after reaching 32 runs.

The left-handed opener is currently unbeaten on 179 runs, having hit 17 fours and 5 sixes, and appears to be in excellent form. He is currently aiming for his first double hundred, and he will undoubtedly play on Day 2 to assist the hosts achieve more than 400-450 runs.

Shoaib Bashir, who made a dream debut as an off-spinner, bowled Rohit. He has two wickets, while Reehan Ahmed has two as well. The other two spinners, Tom Hartley and Joe Root, remain wicketless. James Anderson, who returned to the side, took one wicket but bowled excellently in his 184th Test match, and is nine wickets away from becoming the first bowler to reach 700 wickets.

Ravi Ashwin is with Jaiswal, and the home team finished Day 1 with a total of 336/6. The Southpaw said after the game, “Rahul sir and Rohit Bhai had sent me several texts throughout the day. I want to play till the end for my squad. Hopefully, I’ll make double of it.”
