Out-of-favour Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has been dropped from the BCB’s central contract list for 2024, casting doubt on the experienced cricketer’s international prospects.
Tamim, who retired from international cricket in July of last year, reversed his decision within 24 hours after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requested that he continue.
Tamim departed the game due to a deteriorating relationship with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan, who questioned the left-handed batter’s professionalism.
BCB’s decision to remove Tamim from the central contract list on Monday suggests he is no longer part of their plans for 2024.
BCB awarded central contracts to 21 cricketers, with Shoriful Islam and new captain Najmul Hossain Shanto receiving all-format deals.
Right-arm pacer Taskin Ahmed has been released from his Test contract after apparently opting out. He did, however, maintain his ODI and T20I contracts.
Aside from Tamim, Ebadot Hossain, Afif Hossain, and Mosaddek Hossain have all been removed from the central contract list.
Towhid Hridoy, Tanzim Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Naeem Hasan, and Nurul Hasan are the new additions to the central contract.
During the meeting, the BCB approved the salary contracts of 85 first-class cricketers.
