Rohit to Lead India at 2024 T20 World Cup, Hardik to be His Deputy: BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Confirmed

According to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, India will compete in the T20 World Cup 2024, which would be held in the Caribbean and the United States, led by captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid.
Dravid’s contract expired after the ODI World Cup final last year, but he was asked to continue in his role, along with other support workers, for the December-January tour to South Africa without finalising the contract.

However, Shah stated that he spoke with Dravid here before deciding to retain the former captain’s services until the ICC showpiece.

“Why are you worried about a contract for such a senior person like Rahul Dravid? Rahul bhai will remain the coach in the T20 World Cup,” Shah asserted.

However, Shah stated that they will hold a couple more rounds of negotiations before the main event.

“I will speak with him whenever there is time, there are back-to-back series happening right now. They were in South Africa, then there was a (T20I) series against Afghanistan (at home) and now England. We did not get to speak in between at all,” he added.

India have had Hardik Pandya as their full-time skipper in the shortest format.

“In 2023 (final) at Ahmedabad, even though we did not win the World Cup after 10 straight wins, we won hearts. I want to promise you that in 2024 (T20 World Cup) in Barbados (venue for the final), under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, ham Bharat ka jhanda gaadenge (we will hoist the Indian flag),” Shah said during a speech at an event here on Wednesdsay.

The Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Khanderi, which was renamed after renowned cricket administrator Niranjan Shah, hosted Shah as its principal guest.

Shah delivered a speech in front of various dignitaries, including former India captains Sunil Gavaskar and Anil Kumble, as well as IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

The occasion also included current chief selector Ajit Agarkar, Dravid, Rohit, Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and a few members of the Indian team’s support staff.
