Ravichandran Ashwin, an Indian off-spinner, took his 500th Test wicket in the first innings of the third Test against England on Friday at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
Ashwin took the wicket of Zak Crawley, who was caught by Rajat Patidar for 15 in England’s first innings. R. Ashwin is the second Indian bowler, after Anil Kumble, to reach 500 Test wickets. In 2006, Kumble dismissed Steve Harmison lbw in Mohali, marking his 500th wicket.
The 37-year-old made his Test debut for India against the West Indies in Delhi in 2011 and is currently in his 98th Test, with a chance to join the historic 100-Test club at Dharamsala later in the series.
Ashwin recorded his best Test statistics of 7-59 against New Zealand in Indore in 2016.
