Lanka Premier League 2024 to be played from July 1 to July 21

The fifth season of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024 will take place from July 1 to 21, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced today.

The five-team competition will comprise of 24 games, with 20 in the first round and four in the final round, including Qualifier-1 and 2 and the Eliminator.

Each squad will have at least 20 players and a maximum of 24 players, including up to six international players.

The LPL’s initial season in 2020 had five franchises: the Colombo Kings, the Dambulla Vikings, the Galle Gladiators, the Jaffna Stallions, and the Kandy Tuskers.

Jaffna Stallions, later renamed Jaffna Kings, won the final, defeating Galle Gladiators by 53 runs.

The structure remained unchanged with five teams in the second edition in 2021, however the Dambulla Viikings were rebranded as Dambulla Giants.

Jaffna Kings, captained by Thisara Perera, maintained their title by defeating Galle Gladiators by 23 runs in the final.

The Kandy Falcons, who replaced the Kandy Tuskers, joined the tournament in its third season.

Jaffna Kings maintained their domination, winning a historic third consecutive title by defeating Colombo Kings by two wickets in a thrilling final.

B-Love Kandy, a new franchise, won the fourth LPL season, defeating Dambulla Aura by five wickets in the final.
