Franklin Replaces Dale Steyn As Sunrisers Hyderabad Pace Bowling Coach in IPL 2024

Sunrisers Hyderabad, the Indian Premier League (IPL) team, announced on Monday that former New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin will be its bowling coach for the 2019 season.

Franklin, a left-arm fast bowler, succeeds renowned South African pacer Dale Steyn, who took over as SRH bowling coach in 2022. Steyn has asked the franchise to give him a break this season due to personal reasons.

“Dale Steyn will not be joining us this season due to personal reasons and James Franklin will be the Pace Bowling Coach for this season. Welcome on board, James!” SRH wrote on social media platform X.

Sunrisers had previously announced Australia captain Pat Cummins as their skipper for the IPL 2024 season. Cummins replaces South Africa’s Aiden Markram, who led SRH to the bottom of the standings last year.

Franklin previously played for the Mumbai Indians in the 2011 and 2012 IPL seasons, but this is his first time as a coach in the lucrative competition. He does, however, have coaching experience with Durham in English county cricket and as an assistant coach for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

Franklin will reunite with his old colleague Daniel Vettori, who was named head coach of SRH following the IPL 2023 season.

The duo has worked together at Middlesex in county cricket and with Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred in England.
