Sunrisers Hyderrabad’s INR 1.5 crore Sri Lankan spinner for the IPL 2024, Wanindu Hasaranga, is expected to remain unavailable for at least another week. The news comes as a setback to the Orange Army, who are scheduled to face three IPL heavyweights in that time frame: the Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Titans, and Chennai Super Kings.
Hasaranga suffers from constant pain in his left heel. The Sri Lankan cricket team’s medical personnel believe the pain stems from the musculoskeletal mechanism in his left heel. According to ESPNCricinfo, Wanindu Hasaranga is projected to be unavailable for at least another week as he travels overseas to meet experts about the severity of his injury and how it should be treated.
The Sri Lankan all-rounder is suspected of playing with significant pain in an ODI against Bangladesh on March 18, this year. The leg break bowler will expect to soon enter the 22-yards completely fit, since the T20 World Cup is only a few months away and he will be seeking to captain his nation at the event.
Wanindu Hasaranga was not in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s starting XI when the team opened their IPL 2024 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at the legendary Eden Gardens. SRH struggled with their bowling against the Knights, as their bowlers conceded runs in the first innings, allowing the Knights to score a whopping 208 runs.
The 2016 champions fielded four pacers and two spinners in the first game. With Hasaranga sidelined, Daniel Vettori’s team will have less spin bowling options, reducing their ability to compete against well-equipped teams.
