The Lucknow Super Giants have recruited New Zealand bowler Matt Henry to replace David Willey for the Indian Premier League season, the competition announced on Sunday.
According to the statement, Willey has “withdrawn from the tournament due to personal reasons.”
Willey, 34, did not take part in the Super Giants’ game against the Rajasthan Royals.
He has been involved with the IPL when he was first called up to the Chennai Super Kings roster in 2018. Prior to joining the Super Giants, he also played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
His replacement, Henry, has only played two IPL games, both for the Punjab Kings in 2017.
Henry, 32, has made 25 Test appearances, 82 One-Day Internationals, and 17 Twenty20 Internationals for New Zealand. He joins the Lucknow team at a basic price of Rs 1.25 crore, according to an IPL release.
