During the fifth Test against England at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, R. Ashwin became the 14th player in India’s history to achieve 100 Tests.
Legendary Indian cricketers Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar, and Ravi Shastri expressed their heartfelt support for Ashwin, who is playing his 100th Test in Dharamsala.
Ashwin, who made his Test debut against the West Indies in New Delhi in 2011, is also the first Tamil Nadu player to reach 100 Test matches. He is also the oldest Indian to achieve the milestone, at 37 years old.
The off-spinner became the second Indian, after Anil Kumble, to reach 500 Test wickets after taking Zak Crawley’s wicket in the third Test at Rajkot.
His 507 Test wickets have yielded an average of 23.91 and a strike rate of 51.3. The all-rounder has also amassed 3309 runs in the format, including five Test hundreds, with a batting average of 26.47.
