On Sunday, experienced pacer Mohammed Shami overtook the legendary Anil Kumble to become India’s third-highest wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history.
Shami accomplished this accomplishment during India’s match against New Zealand in Dharamsala, when he made a thundering introduction and dismissed New Zealand opener Will Young for 17 runs on his first ball of the day.
With this wicket, Shami has 32 ODI World Cup wickets, one more than renowned spinner Anil Kumble, who had 31 in the tournament. It just took the Uttar Pradesh pacer 12 innings to attain this milestone.
India’s Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath lead the way on this chart with 44 wickets each. It’s worth noting that Zaheer Khan accomplished this milestone in just 23 World Cup innings, whilst Srinath required 33.
