Ben Stokes, a Premier England all-rounder, will miss the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) owing to workload management, his franchise Chennai Super Kings stated on November 23.
Stokes joined CSK ahead of the IPL 2023, although he only participated in two matches due to a serious knee injury that he battled during the two-month tournament.
“England Test captain, all-rounder Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness,” CSK said in a statement on their website on November 23.
“The Chennai Super Kings management is supportive of Ben in his decision to manage his workload with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024,” the statement added.
CSK paid 16.25 crore for his talents, marking him the franchise’s most expensive acquisition. Given that his energy were focused on preparing for the Ashes series, Stokes has only managed 15 runs and bowled one over in two matches in 2023.
Stokes returned to one-day international cricket, but defending champions England had a disappointing World Cup campaign, finishing ninth in a ten-team points table.
Stokes, 32, missed the opening three league matches but finished strong with a century and two fifties towards the end.
Stokes, on the other hand, did not bowl in any of the six World Cup games.
