The Lucknow Super Giants announced on Saturday that West Indies’ young speed prodigy Shamar Joseph will replace injured England pacer Mark Wood in the Indian Premier League 2024.
Joseph will join the squad for Rs 3 crore.
The 24-year-old took seven wickets in the second innings as West Indies defeated Australia in the Brisbane Test.
Joseph, who was born in Baracara, a small village in Guyana, began playing cricket late in life. The right-arm pacer made his first-class debut in February 2023.
Joseph’s remarkable ascent peaked in January, when he scored a fifer in his debut Test innings against Australia in Adelaide, in only his tenth senior game.
He drew the attention of the cricketing world by taking a wicket off his debut ball in international cricket, capturing the prized scalp of freshly appointed Australian opener Steve Smith.
