ICC announces India’s Yuvraj Singh as ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador

Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been chosen the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Ambassador, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States beginning June 1. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced this on Friday.

Yuvraj, who won the 2007 T20 World Cup, will attend promotional activities in the United States leading up to and during the World Cup, including the highly anticipated game between Pakistan and India in New York on June 9.

The Indian great spoke up after being selected ambassador, saying he is thrilled to be a part of the event where he made history by hitting six sixes in an over against England in 2007.

“Some of my fondest cricketing memories have come from playing at the T20 World Cup, including hitting six sixes in an over, so it’s very exciting to be part of this edition, which is set to be the biggest one yet,” Yuvraj said as quoted by the ICC.

“The West Indies is a great place to play cricket with the fans coming to watch creating a vibe that is completely unique to that part of the world, while cricket is also expanding in the USA and I’m excited to be part of that growth through the T20 World Cup.

“India’s clash against Pakistan in New York is going to be one of the biggest sporting fixtures in the world this year, so it’s a privilege to be a part of and to witness the best players in the world playing in a new stadium.”

It is worth noting that the 20 qualifying teams are divided into four groups of five, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Super 8 phase.

In that stage, qualifying teams will again be divided into two groups of four, with the top two teams progressing to the semi-finals and the winners playing in the final.
