Mumbai Indians (MI) hitter Tim David and batting coach Kieron Pollard have been fined 20% of their individual match costs for violating the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct in a game against the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 18.
The sanction was levied when a viral video of the match surfaced, showing members of the squad and support staff in the five-time champions’ dugout reportedly providing illegal assistance to batsman Suryakumar Yadav in asking for a review.
“David and Pollard committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. “David and Pollard were each fined 20% of their respective match fees,” an IPL release stated on Saturday.
“Both agreed to the offence and accepted the match referee’s decision. For Level 1 Code of Conduct violations, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.”
In MI’s 15th over, an Arshdeep Singh ball was full and outside off-stump, very close to the line. Suryakumar, who was batting on 67 off 47 deliveries, attempted to chase it, but the on-field umpire ruled it acceptable.
However, TV cameras showed MI head coach Mark Boucher pointing to Suryakumar that it was a wide, followed by David and Pollard asking the right-hander to take a review, which is banned under the rules.
